My parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins were art dealers and I was born into the business. From the beginning, the art world has been a backdrop in my life, shaping and guiding my vision. In 1988 I founded Cyrus Gallery, in New York, representing a stable of successful artists and also dealing in blue chip modern and contemporary art. The gallery eventually absorbed our family ancient art business too. I closed Cyrus Gallery in 1993 and have continued since then as a private dealer, advisor and collector, specializing in contemporary and emerging art and photography. In 2017, I became a Certified Member of the Appraisers Association of America.
I offer my clients the expertise, perspective and experience that come from a lifetime in the art business and from three decades of providing honorable, professional and friendly service.
My vision for collecting
Growing up, I watched my father and his friends build a number of incredible art collections. There was such a broad diversity of subject matter. From antiquities and Islamic art, to tribal masks, old master paintings, impressionist works and modern and contemporary art, each collection bore witness to the story of a unique collector. I developed a good eye and came to understand that a good collection is greater than the sum of its parts. I also noticed that the best ones are often assembled with extraordinary passion, by people of ordinary means.
Today, whether I am acting as a dealer, an appraiser, an advisor or a curator, I approach art with the passion and vision of the collectors from my childhood. I strive to share this with my clients and to open doors that will help them build the collections that will inspire others.
